It’s been a long year and one in which there have been many memorable online videos. But not every video can make it into this year’s top five list. From funny to crazy, scary to unbelievable, this year in online shorts has been perhaps the best ever. Perhaps you had some favorites, but did they make the list? You’ll have to check it out to see. So, without further ado, 2007’s top five You Tube videos.
1)
Leave Britney Alone!
Britney Spears may have had a meltdown in the public eye this year, but perhaps worse was the meltdown of online video blogger Chris Cocker. This guy is a certified loon, but the mascara-wearing defender of all that is Britney made is famous with this video. If you haven’t seen it, you were not much of an Internet connoisseur this year.
2)
The Landlord
Why Will Ferrell is making online videos still baffles me, but it also makes me happy. He keeps it real, despite being rich and famous. He’s making huge blockbusters, but is still obviously a funny and creative guy. I’m sad that Pearl has since retired, but this is a classic for the ages.
3)
Don’t Tase Me Bro!
The University of Florida student who asked some hard-hitting questions at a John Kerry guest lecture wasn’t able to stand on his feet long—because he was knock off of them. In a certain violation of First Amendment rights, this guy was arrested for inciting a riot and resisting arrest.
4)
Miss Teen South Carolina Answers a Question
Perhaps nothing was shown more on late night television than this video. Of course, this girl is an idiot. So in a way, this video is funny, but it’s also very, very sad.
5)
Chocolate Rain
Tay Zonday may now be famous, not necessarily because of talent, but because, well, he’s just weird. In this original song, the Urkel-looking man with Darth Vader’s voice shares a little soul with the world. Not quite sure how to react.
