Home to the Bucket Brigade, Sink the Biz, the Hump Room and the Hoosier Room, Nick’s English Hut on Kirkwood represents the university’s deep heritage while maintaining its position as one of Bloomington’s most trendy bars at the same time. We caught up with one of its current owners, Mike Hall, to see what Nick’s is up to this summer:
What are the ups and downs of summer both for business and the overall experience at Nick’s?
The downside for us is that our late night business is not as busy with the kids gone. The upside for us is we get some older couples at night to eat our food.
So it’s not just binge drinking these days?
That’s right. The dinners cater much more to the older, local crowd. And hopefully they come back for our food. We usually have repeat customers after they’ve been here once.
A lot of Hoosiers have a lot of extra time to hit up Kirkwood this summer. What promotions or events are you bringing to the table for Bloomington residents?
We’re going to run a promotion for AARP members. In the month of June, they can get 15% off food items only, Sunday through Thursday.
What’s Nick’s most popular drink for the summer?
The Sink-the-Biz bucket!
It’s only been a few weeks since classes ended. But are you at liberty to share the craziest bar moment at Nick’s so far this summer?
I’ll be really honest with you, I’m not the person to ask, because I’m not here late at night. My experience is the people having a beer in the afternoon, and they’re not too crazy. But you can always check back in on Friday night and find out.
We’ll be there. For the full layout of Nick’s English Hut’s drink specials, check out BloomingtonDrinkSpecials.com. Also be sure to check out the Kirkwood hot spot online at their website.
