The Cutters became the first team to win back-to-back men's Little 500 title Saturday while Delta Gamma became just the fourth sorority to win the women's title Friday. Each race came down to the wire.
Delta Gamma finished the womens' 100 laps with an unofficial time of 1:12:20, edging out Teter for first place by two-tenths of a second. Delta Sigma Pi, Kappa Alpha Theta and Kappa Delta finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the ladies' race
On the mens' side, the Cutters repeated as champions. This picture show's 2007's winning team.
“It really is a dream come true,” Delta Gamma senior JessLander told the Indiana Daily Student. “My whole college career we have trained for this and we are finally able to do it our senior year. There is nothing more we could ask for.”
On the men's side, the Cutters won a repeat title by pulling away with 20 laps to go. Seven teams were incompetition throughout the first 180 laps until the Cutters extended their lead, eventually winning by 22 seconds with an unofficial time of 2:10.00.
The race for second, however, was much more exciting, coming right down to the finish.
Team Major Taylor beat out three other teams to claim second. Dodds House, Alpha Tau Omega and Phi Kappa Psi finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the mens' race.
Seniors Sasha Land and Paul Sigfusson were on the Cutters' winning teams this year and last.
“Sending these guys out with a win is amazing,” Cutters junior Clayton Feldman told the Indiana Daily Student. “It’s amazing riding with these guys, because you know you’re riding with guys people will talk about for a long time.”
