The Lady Hoosiers dropped their last road game of the regular season to the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a 69-54 rout. The loss came just three days after the Hoosiers topped the No. 20 Ohio State Buckeyes in an overtime victory. It was Indiana’s fourth loss in six games.
Thomas was a non-factor in the loss, with only four points
The Gophers pulled out of a tie with Indiana and Michigan in the Big Ten standings, improving to 10-7 in the conference and 19-10 overall. The Hoosiers now have a 16-13 record and a 9-8 conference record. The Hoosiers will need to win their final game against Penn State on March 2 to stay above .500 in the Big Ten.
Indiana was thoroughly outplayed by Minnesota, going 15-for-51 from the floor and 4-for-20 from beyond the arc. The Gophers outrebounded their opposition 39-30, were 50% from the field, and sunk all three of their first three-point attempts. Both teams had trouble hanging onto the ball, but the Gophers even held the advantage in that area, turning the ball over 21 times to the Hoosiers’ 23.
Minnesota’s 2-3 zone defense stifled Indiana, and the Gophers pulled away quickly with a 22-7 run in the first half, taking a season-high 16-point lead into the second half at 39-23. By that point the blowout was on, and the Hoosiers couldn’t seem to get anything going on offense. Minnesota easily cruised to a comfortable win.
Emily Fox led the Gophers in scoring with 20 points. Senior Leslie Knight also had a terrific performance in her last home game, scoring 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out five assists.
Jamie Braun scored 16 points for Indiana and tallied 10 rebounds, but also turned the ball over six times. Kim Roberson contributed 10 points in the losing effort, and the normally consistent Whitney Thomas played only 22 minutes before fouling out. She finished with only four points and six rebounds.
Indiana’s final game will be against Penn State at Assembly Hall in March 2.
