The Hoosiers are one game away from advancing to the NCAA College Cup for the 18th time.
Tomorrow evening the Hoosiers will square off against the three seed St. John's Red Storm. You better believe it's going to be a test. The Red Storm has a record of 18-2-3 on the season and they are one of only 5 teams seeded ahead of the Hoosiers in the NCAA tournament.
The Red Storm's two leading scorers are Nelson Becerra and Tafadzwa Chiduku with seven goals this year. St. John's goalkeeper, Neal Kitson has been stellar this year, giving up only nine goals in 22 matches (started all matched this year). He also posted a .40 goals against average this season.
Indiana, however is 2-0 overall against the Red Storm in NCAA play. The Road was an abbreviated one for the Hoosiers as they had a first round bye. They then beat Saint Louis and Michigan to advance to this, the quarterfinal round.
The last time the Hoosiers were in the quarterfinals in 2004, they went on to their seventh National Championship. Will the Hoosiers be back this year?
If they are going to make a push for the cup, they will have to rely on Andy Adlard and John Mellencamp, who have scored the majority of the goals in this tournament so far. Mellencamp has a goal in each of the two tournament games to date.
What is the key to success? Scoring. When the Hoosiers score three or more goals, they are an undefeated 6-0 this season. For the Hoosiers, an early goal will help their cause as they have struggled to score in the first half this year. They need to score early and often.
The game is tomorrow evening at 5:00 p.m. in Queens, New York. The game will have a live online stream at
