The Hoosiers mens basketball team is seemingly going through what many would call a "rebuilding" year. So to make a long story short, Hoosier fans need a new sport to fill the void for this season.
While the Hoosiers football team is off to a jumping 2-0 start, the IU soccer team is quietly making their impression felt nationwide. They are currently ranked 14th in Division 1 soccer.
The Hoosiers have posted a 3-1-2 record so far in this young season. Already one of the nations most prestigious soccer programs, the Hoosiers are performing day in and day out with their sights set out for their 33rd NCAA tournament appearance and, more importantly, their 8th National Championship. So far, the Hoosiers have defeated #25 Duke, UCLA and San Diego. They have also tied #18 Dartmouth and #10 Akron.
Freshman Will Bruin has started strong with two goals including a goal to give the Hoosiers the lead against San Diego, a game the Hoosiers won 2-1. Senior goalkeeper Chay Cain has stacked up a 3-1-2 record with 3 shutouts. His goaltending has earned him this week's Big Ten Player of the Week honors.
I asked some of my fellow students why they aren't attending the soccer games, and the vast majority of them said something along the lines of, "I didn't even know they were playing today" or "Nobody told me they were playing."
Well- I'm telling you! Now you know.
The Hoosier soccer team is playing their next home match on Sunday, 9/21 at 3:00PM at Bill Armstrong Stadium here in B-town. If you love soccer and you want to experience one of the nation's most prestigious soccer programs, I highly encourage you to check out the 7-time National Champion Hoosiers in action soon. Help make their season even better. See you out there!
