Coach
Bill Lynch is still on a roll recruiting-wise, getting two more commitments in the past two days. IU now has 14 players verbally committed to play in 2009, and 10 recruits rated at 3-stars by
Rivals.com, which is double the number of 3-star recruits set to play for the Hoosiers this year. While these ratings change and verbal commitments are not set in stone (knock on wood), this definitely bodes well for the future of IU football.
The first new commitment occurred yesterday, when QB
Dusty Kiel informed the IU coaching staff that he would become a Hoosier. Kiel passed for 2,600 yards and 60 touchdowns last year playing with fellow IU commit
Duwyce Wilson at Columbus East (IN) High School. He is the second quarterback in IU's 2009 recruiting class, joining
Edward Wright Baker. Kiel had offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Western Michigan.
Dusty Kiel
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 220 lbs
Hometown: Columbus, Indiana
Kiel has a strong arm, good accuracy, and is fairly mobile, though he can't be considered a dual threat. IU seems to be set at quarterback right now with
Kellen Lewis, but Kiel could turn into a viable starting option or a solid backup down the road with his physical tools. At 6'3", 220 lbs he is a physical presence on the field, and there have been rumors that he may moving to the other side of the ball. However, right now it appears that he was recruited as solely a quarterback.
IU also picked up its second offensive line commitment today in Airport High School (MI) OG
Charles Chapman. Chapman is listed as an offensive tackle at 6'6", 275 lbs, and is rated as a top 100 offensive tackle by both Rivals.com (63) and Scout.com (87). Chapman chose IU over offers from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), Toledo, and Northern Illinois, and he was generating significant interest from Michigan and Michigan State.

Position: Offensive tackle
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 275 lbs
Hometown: South Rockwood, Michigan
Chapman is a great addition to IU's stable of offensive lineman. He is much more college-ready than his fellow commit
Pat McShane, who will be spending a lot of time developing his potential, and has ideal size for his position at offensive tackle. People have said that he has bulked up into the mid 290's, so he could be ready to make a contribution fairly early in his college career, and eventually become a rock on IU's O-line.
We will be working to have more information on these two recruits soon.
