Ex-Hoosier Armon Bassett heading to UAB

According to Chris Korman of The Herald-Times, sources are reporting that ex-Hoosier point guard Armon Bassett is heading to UAB to play for former IU coach Mike Davis.

Bassett, who was one of IU's most talented and consistent performers while he was here, was the third-leading scorer at 11.4 points and shot an amazing 45.4% from beyond the arc (compared to 44.1% from the field).

Both Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis were booted from the team earlier this year, and Coach Tom Crean decided against reinstating either player.

He joins a 2009 UAB class that includes 5-star center prospect DeMarcus Cousins as well as several other promising players. The Blazers could be looking an an extremely strong roster when the 2009-10 season arrives.

What are your thoughts on Bassett's decision? Will he stay out of trouble and play up to his potential at UAB?

I'm happy for him, he's coming to a team that seems to be on the rise. Last year they gave Memphis fits and should have dealt them their first loss, and now they have a killer class coming in for '09. He'll definitely be happy with Davis, all of his recruits and players love him. Best of luck Armon, stay away from the drugs.

I still wish he would have come back. I understand that it probably would have been a double standard to bring him back and not the more troublesome Jamarcus Ellis, but he was a knockdown shooter.

UAB's going to be a monster in 2009. Bassett and Cousins are going to be quite the inside-out tandem.
