Mike and Mike campaign for Dan Dakich

Not sure if anyone else heard about this yet, but Mike and Mike had Dakich on the show the other day. After the interview, they spent a little while campaigning for the interim coach to get the more permanent job. Anyone else surprised by this?

This just sounds straight up dumb to me. I mean, good for Dakich for believing in himself, but Mike and Mike should be smarter than to recommend him. He's far from being the best candidate.

What else can Mike and Mike say after having him on the show? It's obvious that Dakich is a good guy and a pretty good coach too, but Indiana is looking for top-notch here.

Are you suggesting that Dakich is actually a good candidate for the job???

I think Dakich would do better with players that he personally brings in (because I think he would focus on different players than Sampson would), and he's a great person in general, but I don't see him getting re-hired unless we get to the Sweet Sixteen. People want a definite, not a wait and see.

If you have ESPN insider, you should be able to listen to the whole thing. Check it out:

He's gonna need a lot more campaigning than that to be the head coach next year...he hasn't shown that he can make the in-game adjustments needed against better-coached teams.

Did you see their NCAA picks? Obviously they're whack.
