Coach Bill Lynch and the Indiana Hoosier have hit an early recruiting surge for 2009, netting four prospects in the past two days. Tight end
Ted Bolser, linebacker
Dimitrius Carr, defensive back
Kenneth Watkins, and linebacker
Jeremy Gainer are all verbally committed to play for IU in 2009, bringing IU's total to six players.
LB Jeremy Gainer is IU's latest commitment for 2009
Here's a brief look at each prospect:
Ted Bolser
Position: Tight end
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 212 lbs
Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
Analysis: Bolser is a good receiving tight end with the speed and hands to give the Hoosiers a legitimate threat at his position. With IU's spread offense he should turn into a nice offensive weapon. Although his strength isn't blocking, his pass-catching ability is definitely a plus. He knows how to go up and fight for the ball.
Dimitrius Carr
Position: Linebacker
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 200 lbs
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
Analysis:Carr is a good athlete who can give IU some depth at the outside linebacker position. He played safety in high school but is looking to convert to linebacker in college. He'll be a versatile linebacker with above average coverage skills.
Kenneth Watkins
Position: Defensive back
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 185 lbs
Hometown: Birmingham, Michigan
Analysis: Watkins will probably come into Bloomington as a safety, although he played both cornerback and safety in high school He has a great combination of speed and coverage skills, and should be a playmaker in the secondary down the road.
Jeremy Gainer
Position: Linebacker
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 215 lbs
Hometown: Detroit, Michigan
Analysis: Gainer is a great athlete and bruising hitter with a nose for the ball, and he makes plays in both the passing game and the running game. He is athletic enough to possibly play at a safety position, but he is really ideal at the weakside linebacker position. He had a very productive high school career (seven interceptions and seven forced fumbles). He and Carr both give IU needed depth at the linebacker position.
