IU Football: Get used to the dual threat at QB

As we all know, the Hoosiers lost a good one, 42-29, to a tough Michigan State Spartans team. Today, however, was unique. At the post-game press conference, Coach Lynch said, "we lost a game but we found a football team". That very football team will feature two quarterbacks as a part of their regular package from here on out.

When asked about the dual package, Coach Lynch explained that both Kellen Lewis and Ben Chappell have strengths that must be used to their full potential in order to win more football games. He stated that the dual package of Kellen and Ben together will become a part of their offense from here on out.

If you watched, you may have noticed that Lewis put up stats in four categories, which is more than usual. Lewis tacked on numbers in passing, rushing, receiving and even punting. Coach Lynch said that this was something they have been working on all preseason and throughout the season so far. He felt that this week was the perfect time to unleash the new Kellen Lewis, QB/RB/WR/P. He also said that we can start getting used to this as well.

Many people are critical of this decision because Lynch is risking injury with the heart and soul of the team in Lewis. To that, Coach Lynch remarked that Lewis risks injury no matter what position he is playing. Even when he is at quarterback, Lynch feels that he is "all over the field" and risking his body. To Lynch, this is his regular game. He said that Lewis is not only a decoy at wide receiver, but he is a threat as well.

While Ben Chappell gets more adjusted to an increased amount of playing time, Lewis will continue to practice in different roles. The team will work to snap this two game losing streak at Minnesota next week.

that's just a testament to how well lewis can handle all 4 positions. i think from a strategic POV, we should probably stick him in 2 positions and focus on that. he'll get worn out otherwise

I realize they can't have the dual threat without the wonderful Kellen Lewis but I never saw it after the Michigan State game... What happened? We found something that worked and Lynch decided it wasn't a good idea?
