One of the final developments in the IU Athletic Department's transitional phase this summer was the
resignation of Athletic Director Rick Greenspan. While Greenspan finishes his tenure through December 31, the administration is actively searching for his replacement.
For weeks, the recruiting process for the position has remained vague and prospective candidates have declined to comment on the situation. Today,
IDSnews.com is reporting a possible loose deadline for that decision to be made:
Quote:
The University announcement for the next IU athletics director might be in about four to six weeks, said IU trustee Philip Eskew Jr.
“We hope to have a new athletic director within the next 4 to 6 weeks,” Eskew said. “I said something to Bill Stephan about ‘Are you going to have to work through Thanksgiving or Christmas?’ and he said ‘Oh, no. We’ll be done long before that.’”
However, Eskew stressed that he is not absolutely sure.
“The board of trustees have not been involved in this process,” Eskew said. “This is a selection to be made by the (University) president. The board of trustees have been briefed from time to time saying that the process is ongoing.”
IU President Michael McRobbie will be going on a trip to China on Oct. 31, which led Eskew to believe the decision could possibly come before then.

This is certainly exciting for those heavily anticipating a decision. Perhaps the most likely and speculated upon candidate is Oregon State's Bob De Carolis, who
recently spoke to the Oregonian, neither affirming or denying the possibility that he's in negotiations with the IU Athletic Department.
Regardless, this hire should provide ample closure to an ugly chapter for IU athletics. The board of trustees, no doubt, wants to reach that decision as quickly as possible.
