With an IU Basketball season of confusion behind us, Hoosiers everywhere are left with a team of unknowns. I figured, instead of going on and on about the Hoosiers we have now, let's go back. What are our beloved '07-'08 Hoosiers doing with their respective lives?
D.J. White. The captain of the '07-'08 Hoosiers is one of two players who did not leave the team because of the coaching situation. D.J. was given Second Team All-American Honors his senior year. Along with that, he received Big Ten PLayer of the Year honors along with being named on the first team All Big Ten list. D.J. racked up 748 rebounds over his four years, becoming the ninth all-time leading rebounder in IU history. He also was the 16th all-time leading scorer over his tenure at IU with 1.447 points.
Just think, what if he didn't sit out almost an entire year as a sophomore? He very well could have been up in the top tiers of those respective lists. But, enough about him then. Where is he now?
The Detroit Pistons drafted the 6-foot 9-inch, 251 pounder from Indiana with the 29th overall pick (their first round selection). His tenure with the Pistons was short lived as he was traded immediately to the Seattle Supersonics in exchange for the 32nd and 46th pick of the draft. We all know what happened from here. On Friday, April 18th 2008, the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City, thus becoming the Oklahoma City Thunder.
So, there you have it. D.J. is now on a Thunder squad that looks to make an impression. He is joined by the likes of Kevin Durant, Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith, Earl Watson, Jeff Green, Nick Collison, Desmond Mason and others in an effort to bring a prominent basketball team to OKC. He will most likely join Johan Petro as the backup frontcourt.
D.J. worked wonders for all three coaches he played for at Indiana and he will likely do the same in the NBA. On behalf of all Hoosiers across the country, we wish D.J. good luck in Oklahoma City.
Next up in our
Where Are They Now series, we will look at Eric Gordon and his status in the NBA.
