ESPN GameDay paid a visit to IU Bloomington this weekend and fans showed up in huge numbers. More than 6,000 fans showed up to support their Hoosiers, some deciding to support Kelvin Sampson and others choosing to support other possible coaching candidates. IUHoosiers.com reported that some fans arrived as early as 11:00 p.m. the night before, waiting for the doors to open at 9:00 a.m.
Fans turned out in big numbers to show their IU pride when ESPN GameDay visited Bloomington.
The GameDay crew shared their opinions about the Sampson ordeal. Among those voices, the opinion seemed to be a consensus--as Dick Vitale put it, "I just don't think see any he could be coaching after the Purdue game." IU, of course, plays Purdue on Tuesday, the Hoosiers' last game before the seven-day NCAA allegations investigation is over.
Perhaps the best highlight of the GameDay coverage was a light-hearted chant lead by the fans. As Erin Andrews approached D.J. White and the other IU players to talk to them, the fans started chanting, “Kiss her D.J.” White hid his face and he and Andrews shared a laugh.
The Herald-Times’ Chris Howell was covering the game for the local paper and made a nice slideshow of the highlights. Here are a few of the best moments captured by Howell. The rest are available at HeraldTimesOnline.com. Howell also recorded the introduction, which can be heard
here.
