There is one thing you really lack," my friend told me. I had simply shown him a website project I'm working on. Because the owner of a big cleaning firm, my friend took an intense interest in my business model.
"What is it?" I asked, certain he was going to say something concerning my overall website style or the emblem that I spotted suddenly, as I reexamined it, was a touch tacky.
"Relationships," he said. "If you wish to grow this website business of yours, you need to induce out there and build relationships with real people." He looked thoughtfully at the site for a moment. He went on to describe how he gets purchasers from his church, his exercise club, and - particularly - from satisfied customers. "You need to create that happen here."
"That sounds nice," I said, a small amount confused. "However your business is in the important world. I mean, you clean buildings. Mine is in cyberspace. What is the association?"
He smiled. "Now that I apprehend you build websites, I can put a link to your web site from mine. Then you put a link to mine from yours. I recognize you. I trust you. My friends will too, once they grasp I do."
In the Net world, we hear a ton about
