Update: IUPUI officials mum on harassment issue; AA letters to Sampson

According to a source close to the issue, officials at IUPUI have been noticeably silent in regards to the racial harassment accusations against IUPUI student/employee Keith Sampson. Both Lillian Charleston, the Affirmative Action Officer at IUPUI, and Richard Schneider, Communications Director at IUPUI, refused to talk about the issue. Schneider made it explicit that nobody from the school would supply any further information.

Charleston's second letter to Sampson withdrew the outright racial harassment allegations contained in their first warning, and clarified the desires of the school. "I am unable to draw any final conclusion concerning what was intended by the conduct, Charleston stated. "No such adverse disciplinary action has been or will be taken in connection with the circumstances at hand."

In the first letter, more details concerning the co-workers' point of view was revealed, although the information was still incomplete. They complained to the Affirmative Action Office that Sampson "showed disdain and insensitivity to [them], who repeatedly requested that you refrain from reading the book..."

This additional information only solidifies suspicions that there is much more to the story than meets the eye. The fact that IUPUI won't give up any facts only adds to the mystique of the issue. It's obvious that IUPUI needs to uncover Sampson's true intentions in his reading of the book to finally resolve this issue and avoid an unjust outcome for either party.

If officials are really just trying to sweep this one under the rug, the problem is only going to come back tenfold in the future.

Attached are the complete letters from the IUPUI Affirmative Action Office to Sampson.
